The new Spanish tennis king Carlos Alcaraz tells how it all started after the Wimbledon 2023 championship

Carlos Alcaraz is the new king of tennis according to the Spanish media, and a day after his Wimbledon victory, the 20-year-old has reflected on his journey so far.

The 20-year-old Spaniard won a thrilling Wimbledon 2023 final Novak Djokovic 1-6, 7-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 in a match that lasted four hours and 42 minutes.

Center Court was filled with celebrities and royalty, including Spain King Felipe VIwho congratulated Alcaraz on winning the Wimbledon crown and they exchanged a few words with each other.

King Felipe, I am really proud that you are here to support me. I played in front of you twice, twice I won, I hope you will come again! Alcaraz told his king in a post-match interview in court.

Spanish media quickly crowned Alcaraz as Spain’s new king of tennis, and his victory dominated not only the sports sections but the front pages of most newspapers on Monday.

How it began for Carlos Alcaraz

Alcaraz took to his Twitter profile on Monday (July 17) to share a picture of him playing as a child in his hometown of El Palmar in Murcia.

He added alongside a photo of himself holding the Wimbledon trophy with the caption, “How it began… How it will look on his journey to becoming a two-time grand slam champion at 20.”

The Wimbledon victory has also secured Alcaraz a place in the end-of-season men’s tour finals. He also maintains his first place in the men’s ATP rankings.
