Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 14) Filipino dancer Alex Eala is still proud to represent the country after winning his second Grand Slam title last week.
In an interview at CNN Philippines New Day on Monday, Eala said what it’s like to be the only one to represent the Philippines on the Women’s Tennis Association track and rise high among juniors.
“It makes me really proud. It gives me the reassurance that I’ve worked so hard to get here,” Eala said.
He expressed his conviction that his achievements could also drive other aspiring Filipino athletes to succeed and bring pride to the country.
“But it also makes me inspire other Filipinos to play sports or whatever they want, it can be tennis or whatever, because I know we can and I know we have the potential to do it,” he added.
When the country celebrated Independence Day last Saturday, 16-year-old Eala and her Russian partner Oksana Selekhmeteva took home the 2021 French Open girls doubles champions in sensational form with Russian Maria Bondarenko and Hungarian Amarissa Kiara Tth, 6-0, 7-5.

Eala even offered his victory to the country and thanked the Filipinos for their support during his endorsement speech.
“It was a really proud moment for me and it made me really proud to be from the Philippines,” he shared.
While he will not be representing the country at next month’s Tokyo Olympics, Eala is certainly not closing its doors with a possible offer in a few years.
“It’s still quite a long way, a long way to go, but definitely a long-term plan,” he noted.
Eala plans to compete in the women’s 25k tournament in Madrid, Spain this week before heading to London for Wimbledon 2021 at the end of the month.
