AMHERST, Mass.University of Massachusetts tennis and head coach Juancarlos Nunez announced the signing of Vitoria Okuyama on Monday afternoon. Okuyama joins Minutewomen from William & Mary, where he was a double CAA First-Team double choice.
The Arapongas, Brazilians, also earned CAA First-Team singles last fall and played a big role in helping William & Mary reach the CAA Championship Finals. Okuyama has a high ITF junior class 118 in his career.
“We are very pleased to welcome Vitoria to our program for the upcoming season,” Nunez said. “He has had an excellent career on the William & Mary field and beyond. He has proven to be an impressive player in singles and doubles. He brings with him a wealth of experience as one who has gone through a lot of battles on the tennis court during his college career. This experience is invaluable and I know he is very excited to get here and help the program achieve our goals for the coming season. “
The CAA Honor Roll and ITA Scholar-Athlete selections played No. 1 singles and No. 3 and No. 4 singles last season and went perfectly 6-0 at the CAA Championships to help William & Mary achieve their third time in their careers in Williamsburg, Va. Okuyama helped his team claim the CAA championship in 2019 with double wins in both the semi-finals and championships.
