Boys’ Tennis WMass DI Semifinals: No. 1 East Longmeadow breaks No. 5 Longmeadows tube, continues to finals

Western Massachusetts Division I Tournament Bracket

East Longmeadows boys tennis court No. 1 won No. 5 in Longmeadow 4-1 Monday night in the quarterfinals.

The Spartans advance to the semifinals on Wednesday, June 23rd and play No. 2 Amherst, who swept No. 6 Minnechaug on Sunday.

With their victory, the Spartans knocked Longmeadow out of the tournament. The Lancers had won the last 22 consecutive Western Mass titles.

East Longmeadow took the first and second doubles and took both doubles. Ryan Morneau defeated Cole Guidrey in two sets (6-1, 6-0), then Bryan Shields needed three sets (6-3, 3-6, 6-3) to beat Longmeadows Tommy McMahon. In the third duel, Sean Baker took the Lancers only victory of the day and defeated Ryan Brunelle in two (6-3, 6-1).

In the doubles, Dylan Duchinos and Patrick Stevens won the first twins against Noah Barnett and Kirat Grewal, and Aman Khurana and Viet-Anh Nguyen sealed the East Longmeadow win with a two-set win over Ben Norman and Zhenghao Li.

The Spartans improved this year’s record to 11-1, while Longmeadow ended the season with a 4-6 record.
