New Delhi [India]June 27 (ANI): Union Minister for Youth and Sports Kiren Rijiju announced on Sunday that the Indian Olympic stand is going to Tokyo to win, not just because of its symbolic presence.
The Tokyo Olympics were scheduled to take place last year, but were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and are now being held this year from 23 to 8 August. To date, more than 110 Indian athletes have entered the games, and the final number should be between 120-130.
Rijiju’s remarks came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his monthly program “Mann Ki Baat” praised the athletes and called on the whole country to stay behind all the athletes heading to Tokyo to bring bearings.
“It was very heartwarming to listen to Prime Minister Mann Ki Baat today, because for the first time India has a Prime Minister who personally and enthusiastically supports players. He has taken care of the well-being of athletes in every detail. I am very proud to have a Prime Minister in India. , and I’m also confident that India will do better at the Tokyo Olympics because our standards are world class, our athletes are able to participate and compete with the best in the world, ”Rijiju told ANI.
“We are not going to the Tokyo Olympics, not because of a symbolic presence, but we are going there to win. Medals are a very awkward situation in the Olympics that you can’t predict when you have the best athletes from all over the world coming together and perfect, but I say with absolute and confidence that India is really there to compete and win, we have the potential to win medals, it is the level of Indian sport now. We are very confident that we should be able to give the best Olympic performance ever at the Tokyo Olympics, “he added.
Speaking about the competence of the new areas of the upcoming Tokyo Games, Rijiju said: “This is what we need to nurture, the previous Indian Olympics used to represent a very limited range of sports, but now we are going to numerous sports. India has a very strong presence “We will continue in some traditional sports and some sports that were not very popular in our country, but now it is becoming popular, all because of the way we prepare, the hard work of the athletes and the technical team, coaches and trainers.”
On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged the people to come forward and support all the athletes who are going to the Tokyo Olympics to make the country proud.
“Every athlete going to the Tokyo Olympics has had to fight, they have worked for a long time. Not only do they go to the games for themselves, but they are going to Tokyo to make the country proud. They have to win people’s hearts and make all people of the people feel proud. I want to urge our citizens Not to put more pressure on our athletes, but you have to motivate them, ”said Prime Minister Modi during his monthly radio program“ Mann Ki Baat ”.
“You can send happiness to our athletes by sending messages to social media with the hashtag # Cheer4India. If you want to do something more innovative, you can do it too. If you get an idea of how we can motivate our athletes together as a country, send it to me too. We support our Olympic team together,” he added. . (LETTER I)
