Recruitment battles are increasing daily as Auburn football competes with other powerful programs to secure commitments to the country’s best prospects. While head coach Bryan Harsin and the Tigers have seen numerous visitors during June, the 2022 class is still looking lightly for commitments and the 2021 list still requires work.
In the world of university football, the mere fact that an opportunity to give an oral commitment does not necessarily mean that they are 100% involved in that school or that even their recruitment process is open. Many committed opportunities continue to visit even after their verbal promise.
A few summer visitors to Auburn football found themselves in that very boat, and the Tigers have the opportunity to make their final move and reverse the commitment of several views set for the fall.
Commit to # 1 Auburn football can translate to: Laterrance Welch, CB
The first flap in front of the Tigers is LSU’s commitment to Laterrance Welch. The 4-star corner player is originally from Lafayette, LA, and committed to Bayou Bengals in January. However, he has been on a visit all summer despite his LSU promise.
Derek Mason has put Welch high on the priority list, and it’s possible that his trip to the plain might make him consider his options. Hopefully we’ll see Welch on campus again in the fall, and Coach Mason can convince him to hold on to the tiger.
