WCHA officially announces the conclusion of the Men’s Hockey Conference, which will take effect on July 1, 2021 | College Hockey

Representatives from the University of Alaska Anchorage and the University of Alaska Fairbanks recently voted to end the WCHA Men’s League following the resignation of eight league members in the past two years.

The vote to end all men’s leagues took effect on July 1, 2021.

I would like to thank the men’s league staff for their hard work and professionalism over the last two years. We also want to give our support to the WCHA Women’s League as they continue the WCHA legacy. At UAA and UAF, we expect to continue our long history of Division I hockey.

As a result of the decision, Alaska Fairbanks will compete as an independent program for the 2021-22 season. Alaska Anchorage will not compete next season as the university seeks to restore its men’s hockey program after announcing in late 2020 that it has dropped the sport.

The decision to disintegrate will be made after seven WCHA programs, Bemidji State, Bowling Green, Ferris State, Lake Superior State, Michigan Tech, Minnesota State and Northern Michigan, leave the revived CCHA next season. Alabama Huntsville received a request to leave the league earlier this summer.

WCHA will continue to sponsor the NCAA DI hockey.
