Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with athletes committed to the Tokyo Olympics on Tuesday. The Indian team is preparing for the Tokyo Olympics and is all prepared for the Games, which will be held from July 23 to August 8, 2021. PV Sindhu is one of India’s biggest medal expectations at the Tokyo Olympics. He won a silver medal at the Rio Olympics while being the reigning world champion in badminton.

Prime Minister Modi interacted with Sindhu on Tuesday and asked about his preferences for ice cream. Sindhu said he doesn’t eat ice cream as much as he prepares for big races.

“We had to control a little as I prepare for the Olympics. I don’t eat that much ice cream because of the competition,” Sindhu said.

Prime Minister Modi said in a lighter way that he will try to eat ice cream with him when he returns from Tokyo.

“If I meet you after the Olympics, I’ll eat ice cream with you,” Prime Minister Modi said.

Sindhu commented on the interaction and said it was an honor to speak to Prime Minister Narendra Mod.

“It was an honor and an absolute pleasure to speak to Prime Minister Narendra Mod with the rest of the Indian department. I want to thank him and the whole people for their continued support and we hope we can make you proud at the Olympics,” he told ANI.

The virtual video conference was opened by Anurag Thakur, Union Minister for Sport and Youth, where he introduced Prime Minister Mod and thanked him for taking the time to increase the morale of athletes. MoS Nisith Pramanik and Minister of Law Kiren Rijiju were also present with the President of the Indian Olympic Federation Narinder Batra.

Athletes such as Mary Kom (boxer), Sania Mirza (tennis), Manika Batra (table tennis), Dutee Chand (sprinter), Deepika Kumari (archery) and Sajan Prakash (swimmer) were all part of the session.

“Every member of the department has the honor and privilege of being able to speak with the Prime Minister before they leave for the Olympics. Our athletes will compete in 85 events where they can win a medal,” Batra said during the session.

126 athletes from 18 sports from India are leaving for Tokyo. This is the largest team India will ever send to the Olympics. The 69 cumulative events in the 18 sports in which India participates are also the highest ever in the country.
