LOUISVILLE, Ky (WDRB) It’s a sport that takes the country by storm, including here in Kentucky.
The pickle ball is betting on its demands at a local state park – and fans are excited.
More than 150 sports enthusiasts gathered Saturday morning at EP Tom Sawyer State Park to open 16 new pickle courts that were converted from six tennis courts.

I’m just so proud to see Kentucky set on a pickle map, said Nancy Sutton, U.S. ambassador to the Pickleball District of Kentucky.
Sutton had never tried the sport in his life and took his sister’s suggestion to give it a shot.
I became addicted right away. I became addicted like most people, Sutton told WDRB News.
According to the Sports and Gymnastics Association, pickle ball is the fastest growing sport in the country.
Sutton, who lives in Paducah, is not surprised by the fast fan base in the sport.
We started with maybe three or four players and now there are several hundred in our area, ”he said.

Louisville Senator Julie Raque Adams asked Frankfort for $ 250,000 for park improvements, including new pickle fields. Kentucky State Parks, on the other hand, received $ 100,000, which was enough to top the project.
Pickleball is a combination of a giant table tennis game mixed with tennis. Experts say it can be learned in less than an hour, play well into older years and contain plenty of health benefits.
