Coco Gauff has withdrawn from the Olympics after testing positively for the coronavirus.

The 17-year-old American, who ranks 25th in the world, was set to represent the United States at the upcoming Japanese Games.

“I’m disappointed to share the news that I’ve tested a positive COVID test and can’t play at the Tokyo Olympics,” Gauff wrote on social media on Sunday.

“I’ve always had the dream of representing the United States at the Olympics, and I hope I still have a lot of opportunities to accomplish this in the future.”

Gauff’s withdrawal further weakens the U.S. lineup in the women’s tournament, as Serena Williams, Sofia Ken and the Madison Keys have all already decided to play. Jennifer Brady, Jessica Pegula and Alison Riske now represent the United States in a duel.

The Tokyo Games, which have been delayed for a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will begin on Friday.

The Tokyo Olympic tennis event has been the subject of several high-profile bets in recent days.
