When Windsorite Nick Marra first met a young hockey player named Bob Probert in a pre-trade match at Windsor Arena in the mid-1980s, he had no idea that Probert was supposed to become an NHL legend.

When Marraread’s game program and saw that they both shared Windsor as their hometown, began to introduce themselves to Probert. The couple hit it pretty quickly and soon stayed at Probert’s family home in Windsor.

“I actually did his first two battle tapes for him,” said Marra, who now lives in Woodland Hills, California, about 32 miles north of Los Angeles.

They remained friends for years, although Marramoved moved to Los Angeles for his career in Hollywood as a sculptor and designer in Hollywood films such as Jurassic Park, Man of Steel, Star Trek and many others.

In this case, it was about capturing Bob’s essence on ice, there is a certain threat he has on the ice that he didn’t really have ice– Nick Marra, Hollywood sculptor and designer

Last time, Marrasaw Probert was in a hockey game between Probert’s Chicago Black Hawks and the LA Kings in the mid-1990s.

“When Probert took the ice, it was electricity, you knew something was going to happen,” Marra said.

“It can be a hit, a fight, the last game he fired and scored a goal. He used to take over the game sometimes.”

Probert died of a heart attack in 2010, and it wasn’t until years later that Marragot got the idea to make a bronze bust in honor of his friend.

“I was thinking of a way to give back to the Probert family and maybe create a limited set of these busts that could be auctioned off to one of the charities Bob was involved with.”

Marra said she would like to contact Probert’s widow Dan to find out if something can be arranged.

Marra said there are artists specializing in animals and aliens in her Hollywood sculpture series, but her personal strength has always captured the essence of people.

“This case was about capturing Bob’s essence on ice, there’s a certain threat he has on ice that he didn’t really have on ice.”

Marra said she liked most of the time she spent at Probert that she always remained humble.

“No matter how famous he became, Bob never changed.”
