With the increase in the use of technology in recent years, the number of people on the Internet has grown dramatically. With a large traffic of users from all parts of the world, the internet has now turned into a mega verse that has opened the door to multiple million and billion dollar industries that exist on the internet. In the long list of industries the Internet has brought with it is the “blogging and online written content industry” that post things like articles and blogs, ranging from a list of topics like daily news, technology or self-help, the possibilities here are endless.

With the rise of internet users, this industry has started to earn both pace and money, and it has also attracted many new web marketers and publishers, thus increasing the amount of content on the internet. This increased amount brings with it one thing and that is competition between different websites for their articles to rank above on Google’s search engine results pages.

This rankings war has been around for a long time now and will continue to exist, websites use different techniques and procedures to make sure their articles or blog posts are above their competitors. Webmasters in recent years have started targeting some common queries they think people might be looking for, these query related articles are generally targeted at a small number of people and websites that post them, to make sure they reach their targeted audience.

A common mistake that different websites make with their articles related to the target query is to syndicate or repost the article, but this doesn’t actually help them rank their articles, rather it takes them away from making them the only site. which is displayed when a user searches for that particular question.

This mistake was recently highlighted by Google Senior Trend Analyst John Mueller who posted a few tweets on the subject.

In his Tweet he responded to a question by saying that if a website aims to have only its website ranked for a particular query, then reposting an article is definitely not a good idea. However, he said that if the website’s goal is to maximize readership, distribution or republication will certainly help.

Mueller then explained the reason for what he claimed. John stated that when a website republishes content, it is referred to by Google as duplicate content, thus making the reposted content of no help when aiming to be the only ranking site for a particular query in search results.

In his tweet Mueller also suggested to websites that if they want their content to be the only one in the rankings for a particular query, then they should pick the correct targets and do the work that helps them reach their targeted audience.
