Amazon has opened a 2,500-square-foot, front-of-home location, Amazon Fresh with no checkout in East Sheen, London.

This is the seventh store of its kind to offer Just Walk Out Shopping technology in the UK.

The other six are in Camden, Ealing, Wembley Park, White City, Canary Wharf and Dalston.

The opening hours are from 7:00 to 23:00, seven days a week.

Customers use the Amazon app to walk in and put away their phone and buy what they need. At the end of the visit, they can make their way to the exit, without having to queue or check out.

Christmas is coming

Today, the new “by Amazon” Christmas range is also launched, available for purchase in all Amazon Fresh stores and which includes Scottish oak smoked salmon slices, six stuffed mince pies and 12 pigs in blankets.

Chingford and Holborn

Amazon is also preparing to open Amazon Fresh offices in Chingford and Holborn, London.

No news on exact launch dates, but we can reveal that this is part of plans to open more than 260 Amazon Fresh stores by the end of 2024.

These will all be cashless, taking advantage of the aforementioned Just Walk Out technology, the company said in internal documents, according to a Business Insider report.

They state: “In 2022, we expect a larger launch of two store launches per week by the end of [the] year, aiming for 60 total openings. ”

“In 2023 and 2024, we are planning to launch 100 stores per year, in line with the most aggressive opening programs achieved by grocery stores in the UK over the past five years, Tesco’s, Sainsbury’s and Co-op have passed the 100 openings a year. “

Amazon, which has hired Tony Hoggett from Tesco to run its international store arm, is reportedly looking to open a number of locations in Germany, Spain and Italy next year.

A spokesperson told RTIH: “We do not comment on rumors or speculations.”
