The huge success of the latest game consoles, coupled with their ability to offer television-compatible graphics features such as 4K resolutions, high dynamic range, and high/variable refresh rates, has seen televisions compete increasingly aggressively in both pertains to gaming performance than, more recently, the number of supported game streaming services.
Samsung was the first brand to introduce a dedicated Gaming Hub menu area and special low-latency playback capabilities to its TVs’ smart interfaces a few years ago, and now it’s expanding its already robust roster of gaming services (which includes Xbox, NVIDA GeForce Now, Amazon Luna and Utomik) with two new additions: Antstream Arcade and Blacknut.
Antstream Arcade claims to be the largest cloud-based retro gaming service in the world, featuring over 1,400 full classic games along with more than 500 mini challenges. The Antstreams library includes the likes of Pac-Man, Galaga, Dig Dug and Double Dragon, and each individual title will be accessible via the Samsung Gaming Hub on select Samsung smart TVs and Smart Monitors on a subscription basis which at the time of writing costs only $12/12 for a full year of access thanks to a current 70% discount offer.

Blacknut, meanwhile, promises to focus on family-friendly titles, giving subscribers access to more than 500 premium games, including AAA releases, across a range of genres, via five simultaneously accessible player profiles. Top titles include Metro Exodus, Overcooked! 1 and 2, TT Isle Of Man: Ride On The Edge 2 and Tour De France 2022. The latter two of which, Samsung says, mean gamers can immerse themselves in online races while watching real 2023 events live on their Samsung TV. European subscribers also currently have access to a full selection of Disney favourites.
The Blacknut service backs up its family-friendly approach by offering easy-to-set-up optional parental controls, supported by careful curation of its titles. Available parental options include a separate pin-protected profile where junior players can access kid-friendly titles like adventure games based on favorite TV shows like Paw Patrol and Gigantosaurus.
Up to four Bluetooth controllers can sync simultaneously via the Blacknut platform, so the whole family can enjoy co-op or group games.
Blacknut offers subscribers who sign up via a Samsung TV or Smart Monitor an exclusive 15-day free trial, during which you’ll play any of its 500+ titles to see if the regular $15.99/12, 99 a month will be worth it to you.
Both the new Antstream Arcade and Blacknut services are now available through the Gaming Hub on select 2021, 2022 and 2023 Samsung TVs, while owners of backported 2021 and 2022 TVs in markets where Samsung Gaming Hub is not available will be able to find the new apps in the main App Store of TVs.
