Bethesdas – PS5 exclusive Ghostwire: Tokyo postponed to 2022

The great season of delays continues unabated. Ghostwire: Tokyo, Tango Gameworks’ next PlayStation 5 action adventure game, has been postponed to early 2022, the studio announced today in a tweet.

First announced at E3 Bethesdas 2019, Ghostwire: Tokyo is the latest game from the studio behind The Evil Within and its sequel, aptly named The Evil Within 2. While not a horror game, it boasts a premise. Nightmare: 99 percent of Tokyo’s population mysteriously vanishes, and you have to make sure it doesn’t vanish. It is a first person action game. Not much else is known.

Meanwhile, development has encountered some high-profile setbacks. Creative Director Ikumi Nakamura, a beloved game designer in most corners of the internet, left the project midway through development.

After six months, the PS5 hasn’t had many truly exclusive platforms. This spring saw two stars in Returnal and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. Those follow the Demons Souls remake from launch day. And of course, every console comes with a pre-installed copy of Astros Playroom (which, honestly, might be its best exclusive).

But there is still a notable shortage, driven in part by the awkward transition period between console generations. For a confused second, Spider-Man’s latest fall: Miles Morales looked like it could have launched as a PS5 exclusive, but it was ultimately released across generations. The next tentpole like Horizon Forbidden West will also be released on PS4 and PS5.

Despite being released by Microsoft following the acquisition of Bethesda, Ghostwire: Tokyo was supposed to be one of the great upcoming exclusive showcases for the PS5, alongside another game released by Bethesda: Deathloop. Those still on track for a September 14 launch date. It will be exclusive to PlayStation 5 for a year.
