This comes days before the UPSC interviews for the 2020 civil service exam. Interviews for the civil service exam have been postponed due to an increase in COVID-19 cases across the country. . It is scheduled to start on August 2.

Dr Agrawal, founder of AFEIAS coaching courses, said the allegations made by the minister can be investigated so that the morale of candidates in the reserve category remains the same and they do not feel demotivated.

Dr Agrawal said that since the positions of candidates in the reserve category are fixed, it is not possible to exclude them from the race for public office by giving them fewer points. However, due to their low ranking, the chances of future promotion may decrease.

The former official gave the example of last year’s cut notes to prove his point. He said the passing scores for last year on the preliminary exam were 98 for the general, 96.66 for the OBC, 84 and 83.34 for candidates in the SC and ST categories respectively. Their passing marks on the main exam in the same order were -751, 718, 706 and 699 respectively. While the minimum final selection scores, in the same order, were 961, 925, 898 and 893 respectively.

He said the score difference between the threshold for general and reserve grade students is not so much that it can only occur if applicants receive lower scores during the interview.

The fact that the two young people, who got the first post in 2015 and 2018 fell into the reserved category, is enough to refute the minister’s claim of poor grades in interviews, the former official said.
