Joe Judge responds to Kelvin Benjamin’s criticism of Giants HC

Kelvin Benjamin has a strong opinion of Joe Judge and has described his thoughts after his release from the Giants.

The Giants’ first full squad training camp practice of the season began on Wednesday with an odd scene. Following a pitch chat between Kelvin Benjamin, Dave Gettleman and Joe Judge, the wide receiver turned tight left the pitch. Later that day, Benjamin, who the Giants signed in May following a minicamp tryout, was released.

Benjamin then told his side of the story to NJ.com’s Zack Rosenblatt, explaining how the team were going to fine him for showing up to camp overweight. Kelvin also claimed he thought the judge didn’t like him and that the Giants head coach was “not a coach who can never win a Super Bowl because he’s sitting there and he swears all day “.

What did the judge have to say about this?

“Look, I sometimes have colorful language… I know how to clean it up at the right time,” Judge told media Thursday morning before practice. “I’m not swearing to my wife, I’m not going to swear to your kids, your wife, your grandmothers, my mother, anything. To be honest I can’t tell you exactly what it is, but it’s a little different when you’re there. [on the field], a bit in the heat of the moment, in practice, teaching – sometimes colorful language comes along. One thing I have is a rule here: we are never going to attack anyone personally. So there are some things, maybe swearing, that we’re never going to direct at a player.

“There are times when you have to use something to focus, or something happens and there’s a certain amount of energy that you have on the pitch at that point. However, we are never going to personally attack a player… we are always making mistakes, we are correcting the position, we are helping the person.

Benjamin also told Rosenblatt that he has no plans to spend more time in the league and will return to Florida. The 30-year-old hasn’t played a regular season game since his brief stint with the Chiefs in 2018.

Kelvin’s connection to the Giants stems from his selection in the 2014 draft. Gettleman acquired Benjamin in the first round that year when he was general manager of the Panthers.
