Tchouameni opened the scoring for Monaco in the first half
Monegasque Aurélien Tchouameni said he received death threats following allegations of racist abuse he was allegedly subjected to by Sparta Prague supporters on Tuesday.
The incident occurred as the French side beat Sparta Prague 2-0 in the first leg of the Champions League third qualifying round in the Czech capital.
Tchouameni, 21, posted on Twitter that the “hate messages” would not affect him personally.
“I won’t let hate win this game,” said the midfielder.
French under-21 player Tchouameni scored the first Ligue 1 goal with a 37th-minute header before German striker Kevin Volland doubled his advantage in the second half.
After Tchouameni’s goal, he and his teammates rushed to Monaco coach Niko Kovac and UEFA officials – including England referee Michael Oliver – to complain about the alleged racist chants from the crowd directed at him.
The game was suspended for three minutes as UEFA protocols were followed by Oliver.
A message broadcast over the public address system and displayed on the screen at Letna Stadium warned that further racist abuse would result in the match being stopped.
Tchouameni questioned the procedures put in place by UEFA to deal with racist behavior, asking why racially abused players are not involved in the decision of the protocols.
He also asked why a game could be stopped to check if a player was “one inch” offside, but the same could not be done for racist chants in the stands.
“Yesterday our club’s camera was on the pitch and caught everything,” he added. “It was loud and clear.”
Kovac said after the match that Monaco were “very sad and disgusted” that abuses of this nature are continuing “in the 21st century”.
The return leg in Monaco will take place next Tuesday.
In April this year Ondrej Kudela, who plays for another Czech club Slavia Prague, was suspended for 10 matches after racially abusing Rangers’ Glen Kamara.
The Finnish midfielder has been suspended for three games after being found guilty of assaulting Kudela in the tunnel after the Europa League sides met in Ibrox in March, which Slavia won.
