Even as the Uttar Pradesh opposition tries to make unemployment a major electoral problem ahead of the state’s parliamentary elections, a family in Jaunpur district denies the allegation.
This Jaunpur family has 50 members and 23 of them are in various government departments.
This family of the late Ram Sharan Yadav lives in the village of Sikrara, about 20 kilometers from the district headquarters, and its members have served in various government departments over the years.
Ram Sharan Yadav’s three sons – Phullar Yadav, Ram Dular Yadav and Chandra Bali Yadav – live together and the family now has 50 members.
One of the family members, Shiv Shankar Yadav, says: “We didn’t have a lot of farmland between us and our father believed that taking a government job would give us a better life. One by one, most of the members got government jobs for themselves. Two of the members have now retired.
He said all members got government jobs on their own without using any sources or paying bribes.
“We cannot say that government jobs are not available because our family has trouble free jobs. We believe that if you make a sincere effort, there is no problem finding a job, ”he said.
Shiv Shankar and the other remaining family members are involved in farming and lead relatively comfortable lives.
The majority of civil servants will receive a pension after retirement, which also secures their old age.
Other families in the village, however, do not believe the family’s claim that they got jobs on their own merit.
A local resident said the caste factor played an important role in securing jobs for the Yadav family.
“Most of the members got jobs in the Samajwadi regimes, which says a lot about them,” said the resident, adding that the family is now known as “Government Gharana”.
