Everton are hoping to part ways with Jonjoe Kenny before the summer transfer window closes.
They have lowered his asking price to attract suitors, but his future is still up in the air as the Toffees have yet to receive an acceptable offer.
The 24-year-old failed to command a starting spot under Rafael Benitez and is behind Seamus Coleman in the pecking order, so the writing is on the wall.
Kenny rose through the youth ranks to Everton’s first team in 2015/16 and made 49 appearances in all competitions.
He only made four Premier League appearances last season and was loaned to Celtic to secure first-team football.
Kenny’s situation has not changed since returning to Merseyside, so he has to leave Everton.
Summary
Spending the season on the bench or off the day’s squad won’t do anything for Kenny’s development.
And Everton will have to make a decision this summer as their contract at Goodison Park ends at the end of the season.
The Toffees stand to lose him for nothing next year if they fail to cash in early as he is highly unlikely to sign a contract extension.
Everton have been linked with Arsenals Ainsley Maitland-Niles as potential Coleman cover, which would spell the end for Kenny.
It’s a good time to let Kenny go. Everton have no plans to play him, so why not allow him a start?
Kenny needs regular opportunities for his development, so he won’t appreciate getting lost on the bench.
