People aren’t here for CBS’s new activism-centric competition series.
The Activist reality series is a contest show featuring six inspirational activists who have partnered up with three prominent public figures.
The teams will work together to give meaning to their cause, centered on vital causes: health, education and the environment.
The show has attracted heavy criticism on social media, although it has yet to air.
Usher, Priyanka Chopra and Julianne Hough are expected to co-host the series produced by Global Citizen, The New York Post reported.
Activists will compete against each other to promote their causes, and their success will be measured by the use of social media engagement and host judgment.
The goal of the three teams is to create an effective movement that will amplify their message, spur action and then advance to the G20 summit in Rome, Italy, Deadline reported.
The focus on the shows sparked a widespread fiery troll on Twitter.
Actress Jameela Jamil wrote: Couldn’t they just donate the money to pay for this INCREDIBLY expensive talent and make this show, straight to militant causes? Rather than turning activism into a game and then giving away a fraction of the much-needed money as prizes? People are dying.
I go to the activist reality show and do this and everyone including the judges is screaming and crying, one user wrote, including a picture of Kendall Jenner from her hapless Pepsi commercial.
1. Why the hell are they judging this? This is the absolute worst, asked another user.
The show will air for 5 weeks on CBS starting October 22.
Will you be listening?
Couldn’t they just donate the money it takes to pay for this INCREDIBLY expensive talent and make this show, directly to militant causes? Rather than turning activism into a game and then giving away a fraction of the much-needed money as prizes? People are dying. https://t.co/GLCUZcGgfb
