RENO, Nevada (KOLO) – This probably happened to you on a recent trip to the supermarket. This item that you are used to buying, a favorite brand or flavor is missing or in short supply. Now that you think about it, it’s harder to find these days.
It is not your imagination or the stores’ fault. Like many others these days, we can blame the pandemic and, to be honest, our reaction to it. Remember when finding a pack of toilet paper or sanitizer counted as a small win, a real find? And when we found these items, did we buy as many as we could?
We did the same by buying a lot of things. Some criticism has called it panic buying. We called it be prepared. Well, figuratively speaking, we’ve emptied the shelves and warehouses.
People have been sourcing for a year and a half in six months, says Reno, public relations manager and spokesperson for Scolaris Markets. So we ended up behind the eight ball.
We have therefore reduced the inventory of a variety of items and now the market is catching up. But the pandemic also complicates things on that side.
This may help explain: Freighters, a number of them sitting outside the LA harbor. It is likely that a bottle of wine, tropical fruit or condiments is waiting to be unloaded.
They cannot unload the ships because there is no manpower to unload them. there are no dockers. There is a labor shortage everywhere, Minor says. There is no warehouse to handle the product.
So with computer chips, bike parts, cars, and a whole list of other products, the items on your grocery list at the supermarket will sometimes continue to be in limited supply for quite some time to come.
I think it will take a few months to catch up. I think you can find what you need if you look closely enough, but the supplies are low.
