Mayor Lightfoot and Kim Foxx clash over decision to indict gang
Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot still can’t believe Cook County State Attorney Kim Foxx filed no charges in a cheeky daylight shooting recorded by multiple cameras.
CHICAGO – The comings and goings continue.
Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot still can’t believe Cook County State Attorney Kim Foxx filed no charges in a cheeky daylight shooting recorded by multiple cameras.
The mayor is now asking federal prosecutors to see if they can indict the gunmen captured on video.
Foxx claimed at a press conference on Tuesday that there was not enough evidence to lay charges in the murderous gang battle in the Austin neighborhood, noting that no witnesses were willing to risk his own life by witnessing.
The mayor notes that it was recorded by several police and private cameras.
“We know who started it. We saw the cars lurking around this house. We see the individuals get out of this car and start a shootout. We know that. One person died. But the other two were very few captured. long afterwards with guns – guns used in this firefight, ”said Lightfoot.
The mayor is not alone. A Sun-Times editorial asked: “Wild West shooting terrorizes Austin in broad daylight and no suspects charged?” The newspaper reports that the police believe it arose out of a dispute between factions of the “Four Corner Hustlers” street gang.
The Illinois ACLU has defended Foxx’s decision not to prosecute anyone, accusing dishonest police officers who have undermined community trust as the reason eyewitnesses will not testify against gangbangers.
Lightfoot said she will meet Foxx in person soon and ask a basic question.
“The facts and the evidence are there. I find it hard to think of what the additional evidence would be, when everything is filmed. You have officers on the scene who have body cameras and onboard cameras. there more? ” said Lightfoot.
FOX 32 political editor Mike Flannery also weighed in on the situation.
“Before I go, I must say that I am stunned by the naive assertion of the Illinois ACLU – in the context of this apparent gang murder – that distrust of the police is the reason for which witnesses will not show up. I have been to these crime scenes and I have spoken to eyewitnesses. Time and time again they have told me that they are afraid of being killed by gangbangers like this Four Corners Hustlers group, ”he said.
