Blaming other countries that don’t get rewards for voting less in Europe: Narinder Batra | Hockey News

PUNE: Eight awards, all for Indians. Indian players and coaches were the stars of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) awards in all categories. The world is in turmoil for obvious reasons as India has not won any major titles and none of its players have been top scorers or MVPs in international tournaments for the given period. Olympic champions Belgium registered a protest against the voting system. However, Narinder Batra believes that is the case with sour grapes for losers. Batra was in Pune to meet with the newly elected members of the Maharashtra Olympic Association. He affirmed that he was not commenting as president of the FIH but as president of the IOA. “If you don’t have the prizes, you shouldn’t insult the winners,” Batra told TOI. He “felt” that the Rio 2016 silver medalists in Belgium won all the awards in 2017 ahead of the gold medalists in Argentina. However, Belgium and Argentina had won three awards each and the rest went to players and officials from Australia, Great Britain, South Africa and Scotland. Batra said Indians who get all the awards show better synergy between Asian countries than Europeans. “If only 19 out of 42 countries in Europe voted for these awards, that’s not my problem. If 29 out of 32 countries voted in Asia, the credit should go to the Asian Hockey Federation for coordinating with its members to vote. It is a problem of the European Hockey Federation that they have not pushed their members. ” Earlier this week, Hockey India announced its withdrawal from the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. However, the decision was taken without telling the government about it. Batra said no one is above the government, but has also sided with the Indian hockey body. “I don’t know which source in government said she was not aware of the decision. It was discussed at certain levels of government, not at the highest level,” Batra said. Batra said participation in the CWG may have political obligations to fulfill, but planning for the Olympics should be the priority. “The Asian Games are only 32 days after the CWG. If the Indians participate in the CWG and return, their immediate destination would be China. Do you think they will be in good shape for the Asian Games? What could be more important, qualifying for the Olympics or getting a medal at the CWG? The gold medal at the Asian Games is more important because it ensures a direct qualification for the Olympics. So why not take the direct route? We haven’t done this for many years. We should analyze sport from a scientific point of view. way rather than being emotional or passionate. ”For the record, the IOA had a fallout with the CWG organizers after they reconsidered the decision to abandon the shooting and archery program. Games by citing the Covid situation. The IOA pressured them to reestablish these sports in the pre-covid era. The CGF then awarded the Commonwealth Archery and Shooting Championships to Chandigarh ahead of the Birmingham CWG with the promise that medals from those sports would count towards the final tally. The CWG is scheduled to be in Birmingham from July 28 next year.
