An insider story sparked an avalanche of GOP tweets poking fun at Democrats. Republicans say the Democrats’ strategy on critical race theory is excellent – for the GOP. “Double up calling racist parents. Great plan,” tweeted a Republican.
Republicans mock the Democrats’ plans to fight GOP rhetoric on critical race theory in a barrage of tweets, essentially begging them to do so.
“Double up calling the parents racist. Great plan,” tweeted Brian Phillips, who worked for Republican Senator Ted Cruz’s 2016 presidential campaign.
Senator Tom Cotton, a Republican from Arkansas, tweeted: “This strategy will fail because parents know what their children are being taught in schools.”
Conservative site The Daily Caller tweeted, “Haven’t they learned anything from Virginia?
The tweets came in response to an insider story about Democrats’ response to the GOP’s controversy over critical race theory. The college course has become a catch-all term misused among conservatives for teaching race and diversity in K-12 schools that sparks protests at school board meetings. In Virginia, Republican Governor-elect Glenn Youngkin pledged to “ban” it from classrooms on his first day as governor, even though Critical Race Theory, an approach to examining racial bias, is most often taught in law schools.
Democratic strategist Jesse Ferguson had told Insider that Democrats haven’t backed down enough on the issue yet. “It cannot be considered a lie” when the right-wing media are the root of the problem and parents also hear about it from other parents in their schools, he said. “It must be defeated as a way to put politicians in charge of the classroom and white supremacists in charge of the agenda.”
Republicans have taken hold of history, proving that no message can help Democrats on this issue as they face forceful conservatives.
“More good news for Republicans, if that’s true,” tweeted Mollie Hemingway, conservative author and editor of The Federalist magazine.

During Virginia’s gubernatorial race that ended in early November, Democratic candidate Terry McCauliffe said critical race theory had never been taught in public schools and called the term ” racist dog whistle “. Democrats still fear his misstep in a debate when he said parents should not “tell schools what to teach,” referring to books some parents considered controversial. Now House Republicans are calling for a “parenthood bill of rights” on education.
“Dude, they’re really not learning, are they,” tweeted Matt Gorman, former director of communications for the Republican National Congressional Committee, referring to Democrats and responding to the Insider story.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ press secretary Christina Pushaw tweeted: “Vote for us, you racists! We own your children! “- Democratic Platform 2022.”
A Washington Post-ABC News poll found that most Americans said public schools should teach “a fair amount” or more about how the history of racism affects the United States today. While most Democrats and Independents said schools should teach the effects of racism, roughly 4 in 10 Republicans agreed.
House Democrats’ campaign arm says battlefield voters identify with Democrats who say they want to teach children the truth about US history and honor those who fought to make the country a better place , and while Republicans want to divide Americans, Democrats want to serve American families.
“Republicans oppose American families,” Chris Taylor, spokesperson for the Congressional Democratic Campaign Committee, said in a statement to Insider. “Our bet for 2022 is that voters will choose progress over division.”
