Matt Damon and his very strange facial hair in The Last Duel.

Millennials. They can’t stop killing things. They killed the real estate market, they killed the NFL. Guys, they even killed the light yogurt.
Now, those damn murderous millennials are hunting the most dangerous prey: the Ridley Scott films.

Ridley Scott is the director – rightfully so – of some of the greatest movies ever to be made. Alien, Blade Runner, Gladiator, all of the most famous and iconic films of the last century. But his latest film, The Last Duel, had a big problem at the box office.
Starring Matt Damon and Adam Driver and Jodie Comer, The Last Duel grossed a worldwide total of $ 27.5 million when it was released in October. That’s a pretty low number, especially considering the film had a production budget of $ 100 million.
But even with an easy exit – the fact that the film was released with the world in the grip of a pandemic – Ridley Scott decided to blame millennials for the failure.
“What we have today [are] the audience that was raised on those fucking cell phones, ”he said, speaking on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast.“ Millennials, [who] I never want to learn anything unless someone tells you over the phone, ”Scott said.
“It’s a general trait, but I think we’re dealing with it right now with Facebook. It’s a bad direction that happened when we gave the wrong kind of trust to this last generation, I think. . “
While it’s very funny to hear people still blaming millennials for things, I’m willing to let Scott a little slack on the basis of that.
1. He created Alien. Which is probably my favorite movie.
2. I had never really heard of The Last Duel which, considering the fact that it wasn’t just directed by Scott, but starred both Matt Damon and Adam Driver, is probably a huge marketing failure.
But at the same time, millennials are now in their late fifties, so blaming them for being that bunch of wacky people making wacky choices based on their collective love of tech seems a little odd. Blame the zoomers please. It’s their fault. Or blame Matt Damon’s ridiculous facial hair, or the content of the film itself, which many have found off-putting.
I didn’t see The Last Duel because I’m fed up with stories of raped women, and Ben and Matts’ hair looked exhausting.

For what it’s worth, Scott was happy with The Last Duel.
“I learned very early on to be your own critic,” he said. “The only thing you really should have an opinion on is what you just did. Walk away. Make sure you’re happy. And don’t look back.”
