Home Office remains silent on allegations of sexual harassment in Maltese armed forces

Malta’s Home Office is silent on shocking allegations of sexual harassment with the armed forces, refusing to respond to questions sent almost two weeks ago.

Lovin Malta recently revealed that a member of the Maltese armed forces was facing allegations of harassment after sending a series of sexually explicit images and videos to a former lover. The AFM had been informed of the incident in early 2021.

Lovin Malta saw a series of images and videos sent by the AFM officer in question, who sent the videos while wearing his uniform and allegedly from the army barracks.

The man was in a relationship with the woman. However, once he broke up, the man reportedly started harassing her with nude photos and videos, one of which shows him masturbating.

The newsroom also saw a slew of messages sent after the breakup, harassing her with attempts to video call her.

Questions to the Home Office, AFM and Brigadier Jefffrey Curmi remain unanswered. This included questions to determine whether an investigation or internal investigation would be initiated into the conduct of the AFM officers.

The officer in question is still with the AFM and recently participated in the Poppy Army Parade.

The AFM issued a right of reply after the article was published, insisting that it was not its duty to investigate crimes committed within its ranks. However, this raises serious questions as to whether the AFM or the ministry is prepared to at least look into the matter.

This is not the first story of misconduct that afflicts the AFM. Sergeant Carmen Pace had a long-standing relationship with Raymond Caruana, a drug lord who was assassinated outside his San Blas residence in Haz-Żebbuġ on March 20, 2015. She was the anonymous “female companion” who was there. inside the residence at the time. of murder.

Sources told the newsroom that Curmi was well aware of the couple’s relationship – and knew Pace was there when Caruana was shot. He didn’t act, with Pace actually being promoted to Staff Sergeant a few months after the murder. She retired in 2018 on a taxpayer funded pension.

What do you think of the silence of the ministry?
