Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar on Monday challenged BJP MP Ashish Shelar to prove his claim that a Maha Vikas Aghadi minister was present at a party hosted by famous filmmaker Karan Johar or to issue a public apology.
A recent party hosted by the filmmaker came under the scanner of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation after two actors tested positive for COVID-19, as it quickly turned into a political struggle with Shelar claiming a minister of State was also one of the participants.
Speaking to reporters at his official residence in Byculla, Pednekar, who is also a spokesperson for Shiv Sena, asked Shelar to provide evidence to support his claim and also denounced the BJP for creating unnecessary controversy by the bias of unsubstantiated claims.
The BMC, which is led by the Shiv Sena, has taken the necessary steps in relation to the party, she added. Earlier, the BMC said it had prepared a list of those who attended the party and intended to get them tested for the coronavirus.
