Rust’s cinematographer’s father blames Alec Baldwin in part for his death

Rust’s cinematographer Halyna Hutchins’s father says he blames star and producer Alec Baldwin to some extent for his daughter’s death.

The late cinematographer’s father, Halyna Hutchins, blames Alec Baldwin for his unexpected and tragic death during the production of Rust. The incident occurred on October 21, in which Baldwin was in possession of a propeller pistol, which was fired during a rehearsal of a scene, containing a single live bullet that killed Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza. Baldwin didn’t know the gun was loaded. Hutchins is survived by his family, including a husband and a 9 year old son. As the incident continues to be investigated, there have been multiple disclosures regarding the specific circumstances of the crash and who is primarily responsible.

Rust’s gunsmith Hannah Gutierrez-Reed and assistant director David Halls, both supposed to check out the weapon, have received immense attention. Gutierrez-Reed reportedly placed the weapon, a Colt .45 revolver, on the shelf, while Halls came under scrutiny for failing to check the cartridges. The two have reportedly seen similar cases on previous film sets where a gun was unexpectedly discharged and hired lawyers. Baldwin has also been named in several lawsuits, due to the handling of the weapon and the fact that he was the producer of the film.

Per The Sun, Hutchins’ father Anatoly Androsovych commented in an interview with the British tabloid that he blames Baldwin for his daughter’s death to some extent. He also expresses confusion over information that has come to light during the ongoing investigation into the case and questions claims that Baldwin did not fire the gun during rehearsal. Androsovych’s statements can be viewed below:

“I don’t understand Alec’s behavior. Why did he brush up on his tweets when it became clear that the shoot was in rehearsal? And why did he fire the shot during the preparations? The revolver is the type of weapon that doesn’t fire until the trigger is pulled and Alec is partially guilty of causing this blow. It’s clear to me that Baldwin got the hang of his hand, so it’s hard for me to understand how he can’t be held partly responsible for my daughter’s death.

As the investigation refined the facts, Baldwin once again became the primary target of the story. He recently gave an interview to George Stephanopoulos, stating that he didn’t pull the trigger, but rather pulled the hammer back while cocking the gun, causing it to fire. Soon after, Baldwin deleted his Twitter account, while many questioned his claim about how the gun could have detonated if he hadn’t pulled the trigger. It was also reported that the Santa Fe Police Department obtained a search warrant and confiscated Baldwin’s phone.

The investigation into the Rust tragedy continues to be ongoing and, as of yet, no charges have been laid. It’s understandable that Hutchins’ father thinks Baldwin is somehow responsible for his daughter’s death, given that he was the direct cause of the tragedy, even though it was accidental. Of course, the incident is a more personal matter for the family and they are expected to have multiple questions about what is presented to understand the truth and begin to make sense of it. As more and more information about Rust’s crash continues to unfold, the public will have more certainty and hopefully Androsovych and Hutchins’ family can be shut down.
