Chris Brown thinks the rape allegation against him is a conspiracy

Trigger Warning: This story contains an allegation of sexual assault.

Hardly a year goes by without another woman calling Chris Brown for abuse. This week, Brown became the center of a $20 million lawsuit accusing him of raping a woman on a parked yacht.

According to the lawsuit, the alleged rape took place on Dec. 30, 2020, after the singer invited an unnamed female guest to Diddy’s home on Miamis Star Island. After she arrived, Brown provided her with several mixed drinks in the yacht’s galley before she began to experience a sudden and unexplained shift in consciousness, according to the suit. She claimed she felt drugged and was falling asleep, but alleged that Brown always led her to a bedroom on the yacht, stopped her from leaving and began to undress her while kissing her without solicitation. According to her recollections, Brown ignored her pleas to stop and raped her until he ejaculated inside her and then asked her to take a Plan B pill via text message on the following day. She claimed to have followed his request and she never reported the assault to the police because she was embarrassed by the whole ordeal.

News of the lawsuit surfaced on TMZ on Thursday, and it wasn’t long before Brown and his industry friends began blaming the victims and launching conspiratorial rants. On Friday morning, Brown apparently responded to the lawsuit by dismissing it on an Instagram story, where he points out what he sees as a pattern of character assassination. In his mind, every time I post music or projects, THEY try to do some real bullshit. An hour later, Tory Lanez, the last man on Earth who should speak out on all things abused women, echoed Browns’ sentiments on his own Instagram story supporting Browns’ conspiracy claim. I’ve literally never seen the man be anything but fucking nice to fans and peers, Lanez exclaimed. It looks bad, but it’s getting worse.

Hours after dismissing the lawsuit and gaining problematic support from Lanez, Brown posted a photo of himself wearing many hats in an attempt to qualify the cap allegations, otherwise known as lies. But an hour earlier, Brown thought it would be wise to post to his main Instagram feed a video of him dancing as part of the #IffyChallenge he kicked off last week. Challenge participants submit freestyle dance videos to his song Iffy for a chance to score a Chris Brown collectible and a spot in a private virtual dance class with famed choreographer Josh Smith. There’s only one problem: He chose to highlight the part of the chorus where he sings can’t trust these hoes because they’re dodgy and placed those exact lyrics in the caption of the posts. , which he hadn’t done for any of the previous videos when promoting the challenge. If he uses Instagram Stories as his forum to profess his innocence, he surely isn’t above using a post on his Instagram feed to slyly disparage the rape accuser in front of his 103 million Instagram followers.

Since he brutally assaulted Rihanna in 2009, Brown has struggled to keep his name out of the news due to repeated allegations of abusive behavior towards women. He was accused of threatening his tour manager in 2016, keeping a woman in his home against her will while a friend of his raped her in 2017, texting his ex- girlfriend Karreuche Tran whom he beat her in 2017 and pointed a gun at a woman in 2016. Three years ago almost to the day of these new rape allegations, Brown was accused of raping a woman in Paris during Paris Fashion Week. The accuser of the 2017 incident dropped the lawsuit three years later. No update has been released on the alleged rape in Paris since Brown failed to attend a formal meeting between him and his accuser as part of the investigation. Tran got a five-year injunction for her threats. He also did not face firearms charges for his 2016 incident.

Instead of pointing the finger at a grand conspiracy to ruin a career that Brown seems quite capable of ruining on his own, the multi-platinum entertainer should focus his efforts on letting these allegations play out in court. Responding to every rape allegation by denigrating the character of the victims does not make you appear innocent; it makes you look inconsiderate.
