A man who is out on bail for drug trafficking turned up at a PSNI station to respond to an allegation of breach of bail with 13 diazepam on his person which Derry Magistrates Court heard today.
The man who was granted anonymity on the drug charges appeared today on charges of breaching bail.
A policeman told the court that police called the man’s address on December 11 and knocked on the door, but there was no response.
They continued to knock for some time and the court was told there were dogs inside the property who could be heard barking.
The next day the man went to the PSNI post and was searched and the tablets were found on him.
The police officer said “he surrendered with drugs on him”.
The court heard it was the man’s third bail breach and the officer said he was last warned not to breach again.
Defense barrister Seamus Quigley said the man was “self-medicating” due to the pain he was in from breaking both his arms.
He said his client claimed he was at home when police called, but had been on diazepam and was “dead to the world”.
The man has been released on bail to appear again next month.
