Irish journalist Donie O’Sullivan among those suspended by Twitter after Musk criticism

IRISH CNN reporter Donie O’Sullivan is among a number of reporters who have been suspended from Twitter for criticizing Elon Musk.

Mr O’Sullivan, from Kerry, has been reporting on the intersection of technology and politics and has been critical of Musk since he took over the company earlier this year.

The billionaire tweeted that the rules prohibiting the publication of personal information applied to everyone, including journalists.

Mr Musk claims the reporters violated his new ‘doxxing’ policy by sharing his live location, which amounts to what he described as ‘assassination coordinates’.

However, Mr O’Sullivan at no time shared Musk’s location.

Another account called @ElonJet which used publicly available flight information to track the movements of Musk’s private jet was suspended earlier this week.

Speaking to CNN after his suspension, Mr O’Sullivan said:

“I think that’s very important for the potential impact it can have on freelance journalists, freelance journalists around the world, especially those covering other Elon Musks companies, like Tesla and SpaceX.”

A statement from CNN read:

“The impulsive and unwarranted suspension of a number of journalists, including CNN’s Donie OSullivan, is concerning but not surprising. Twitter’s growing instability and volatility should be of incredible concern to anyone using the platform.

“We’ve asked Twitter for an explanation, and will reevaluate our relationship based on that response.”

Other accounts to be suspended include New York Times reporter Ryan Mac and Washington Posts Drew Harwell.
