A Twitter user’s criticism of Australian animated pre-school show Bluey has an entire fanbase of children and adults (but mostly adults) coming to its defence.
On Monday, Twitter user @little_paisano expressed confusion over the series’ overall appeal. I’ll never understand why people think this show for preschoolers is like (I’m going to exaggerate a lot here) the second coming of the media christ.

Before long, viewers from afar came out of the woodwork to defend the shows’ honor. Here’s a series about a 6-year-old Blue Heeler pup, Bluey, who has a seemingly limitless zest for life and still manages to argue with his father, Bandit as well as his sister Bingo and mother Chilli on various adventures, but according to for adult fans might as well talk about Mona Lisa.
WHO CAAAARES literally compared to so many kids shows out there, bluey IS the best and has SO much depth. Bluey has amazing animation, voice acting, emotional themes, messages, music, and more. I swear to God there’s a GOOD reason teens and adults love it too — https://t.co/hvpvrmjbWS

Originally created by Joe Brumm, Bluey premiered on ABC Kids, a sister network of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, to immediate acclaim in 2018. In 2019, the shows’ international broadcast rights were taken over by The Walt Disney Company for its Disney Junior television. network, and was later distributed on the Disney Plus company’s streaming platform, where it continues to be one of the most popular children’s shows. Within 18 months of its debut, 25 million people streamed its episodes more than 260 million times, according to The Guardian.
The show received 30 awards in various award shows, including the international category at the BAFTA Children & Young People Awards in 2022. It has become a balm not only for adults who find the realities of the real world too hard to digest, but also to the children, who are sponges with the positive messages woven throughout each new episode.
Amending their original statement, Twitter user @little_paisano shared that they indulge themselves on the show from time to time with their nieces. Indeed, Bluey’s fandom didn’t need a reason to come to the show’s defense and jumped at the first opportunity to shed some light on why they love him so much.
Those who find respite from wholesome and happy shows, kids and adults alike can stream 52 all-new Season Three episodes on Disney Plus.
