Community activists call out Kim Ogg for supporting racist and sexist prosecutor Waymond Wesley II

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas Pullout calls are growing for the TikTok star who holds a powerful position in the Harris County prosecutors office after what many call his racist and sexist social media posts targeting black women were revealed.

Waymond Wesley II, aka WaymoTheGod and ChefWay is prosecutor under DA Kim Ogg.

The Houston-based celebrity TikTok chef has gotten millions of views for his recipes, like oxtail soup, but his derogatory remarks against black women are what made him negatively go viral.

Recently resurfaced tweets show Wesley harassing and attacking black women, seemingly simply for the color of their skin. Ironically, he is also an African American.

In tweets from 2015 and 2016, Wesley, writing under a now-deleted account, @WaymoTheGod, is accused of posting a barrage of negative comments about darker skin and more figured body types, and compared black women to garbage.

He’s in a relationship with what appears to be an Asian woman, and people are making it clear that they don’t care what kind of woman he prefers. The problem, many say, is the fear that as a prosecutor he might wield the power to try to intentionally harm the women he seemed to express his disgust for.

Twitter users reacting to the tweets called them colourist, anti-black and misogynist.

Wesley acknowledged he made the comments, but dismissed them as how he felt at another stage in his life. He implied that the statements reflected how he felt about black women in the past, but not today.

In a post on his social media sites, Wesley wrote: To those I have hurt with my past tweets that have resurfaced, I am deeply sorry. It was a time in my life when I was sick in more ways than one. Cooking saved me. You’ve seen an imperfect man heal. I will continue to heal and learn. Thank you for being along for the journey.

According to the Texas State Bar, Wesley has been licensed to practice law since January 2021. He joined the Harris County District Attorney’s Office in March 2021.

Commenters on social media tagged Ogg and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, calling for Wesley to be fired. They debate whether to trust him, not believing his alleged racism would allow him to treat black women fairly in court.

His boss, however, does. Ogg rejects requests for Wesley’s release and released a statement publicly supporting him.

We recently learned of comments he made on social media posts almost seven years ago. These posts were inappropriate and offensive and do not reflect my values ​​or those of the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. Mr. Wesley explained that these posts came during a period when he was struggling with serious personal issues, including alcohol addiction. I believe in second chances and Mr. Wesley has conducted himself in a professional manner since joining our team. I’m confident that will continue, Ogg said.

People in the community ask Ogg to investigate the situation further.

Dr. Candice Matthews, along with the Rainbow Push Coalition, Quanell X, President of the New Black Panther Nation) and members of the NAACP from Brazoria County, Houston Rising and other civil rights organizations, held a press conference Friday calling for Oggs’ decision.

I blame him for his opinions, but I don’t blame him for the position we find ourselves in right now because he has declared his bias, said Lonnie Johnson, a speaker at the press conference. This isn’t the first time Kim Ogg has backed a parody against black women. We must be aware and challenge in the future. Even though Ogg stands with Wesley, the companies are distancing themselves. The CEO of Anova Culinary tweeted that they are cutting ties with him as soon as possible because he does not represent the values ​​of the company. Other brands are also ending their affiliations with Wesley.

Dr. Matthews had a message for Ogg.
