New York Republican George Santos, who fabricated key details of his biography during his 2022 election campaign, is now facing new allegations related to crowdfunding platform GoFundMe.
Richard Osthoff, a disabled veteran from New Jersey, told Patch in an article published Tuesday that in 2016, Santos, who then ran a pet charity, helped him raise thousands of dollars for his dog. , then disappeared with the money.
At the time, Osthoff was living in a tent in a chicken coop on the side of Route 9 in Howell with his service dog Sapphire. The pit bull mix required $3,000 surgery for a life-threatening stomach tumor.

The veteran told Patch that a vet tech told him he knew someone who ran a pet charity — Friends of Pets United — who could help with expenses. This man was George Santos, who then used the name Anthony Devolder, his two first names.
According to Osthoff, Santos appealed to GoFundMe to help raise money for Sapphire, but once the campaign reached $3,000, the newly elected congressman from Long Island disappeared and stopped responding to text messages and emails. calls from the veteran.
Osthoff said Santos asked him to take Sapphire for surgery to a New York vet, who ultimately said he couldn’t operate on the dog. After that didn’t work out, Santos became elusive, according to Osthoff, and eventually told him he was going to allocate the funds raised to other dogs. Saphir passed away in January 2017.
Another new allegation against the New York Republican was made Tuesday by his former roommate Gregory Morey-Parker, who told CNN’s Anderson Cooper that Santos used the fake Jewish name of Anthony Zebrosky to raise money for his fake pet charity page GoFundMe because he thought “Jews will give more if you’re Jewish.”
Morey-Parker said he knew Santos by two names, Anthony Devolder – the one Osthoff mentioned – and Anthony Zebrosky. The man, who told CNN he had only lived with Santos for a few months, also accused the newly elected congressman of stealing a scarf from him, which he later wore during the insurgency. January 6, 2021 at the Capitol.
The allegations by Osthoff and Morey-Parker are the latest in a string of revelations made by reporters, friends and colleagues about the New York Republican, exposing a web of lies woven by Santos during his campaign.
After a New York Times investigation revealed that his resume was filled with inconsistencies, lies and misleading statements, Santos admitted to “embellishing the resume” and apologizing to anyone who might have been ” disappointed” by his behavior.
However, despite confessing, among other lies, that he did not graduate from Baruch College in 2010 or work for Citigroup and Goldman Sachs as he claimed, he said that “a lot of people exaggerate their CV”, adding that it was “not a fraud.”
Several Republicans, including Anthony D’Esposito, Nick Langworthy and Brandon Williams, have called on Santos to resign following the discovery of his bogus resume, but the congressman has so far refused to resign.
“I was elected to serve the people of [the New York third district] not the party and the politicians, I remain committed to doing so and regret to hear that local officials refuse to work with my office to achieve results to keep our community safe and reduce the cost of living,” said he tweeted on January 11.
“I will NOT quit! »
Santos is under investigation in New York and Brazil, where he is accused of stealing a checkbook in 2008.
