The Sundance Film Festival made a late addition to its lineup today, with Deadline reporting that Justice, a new documentary about now-familiar sexual assault allegations against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, has now been added. to the list of festivals.

News of the addition was announced at an opening day press conference in Park City today, with programming director Kim Yutani announcing the Friday night addition while introducing the rest of the lineup. Sundance slate. (It’s not for nothing, but it was Sundance’s first in-person press conference in two years, as the festival returns to a less virtual version of itself.)

One somewhat surprising thing about Justice, meanwhile: It’s the documentary debut of Doug Liman, who is best known as, among other things, one of those few directors who have made a healthy career out of pointing the camera on Tom Cruise as he does ridiculously dangerous things. (Previous entries in this canon include American Made and Edge Of Tomorrow; Liman most recently directed the sci-fi parable Chaos Walking and a few episodes of Noah Centineos The Recruit.) Not that Liman doesn’t have the chops of direction to tackle the documentary, but its kind of savage to see a guy we normally associate with reasonably smart action thrillers tackling a topic as heavy as the sexual assault allegations made against Kavanaugh by multiple women, but more particularly Christine Blasey Ford, and discussed in depth during his confirmation hearings which have cast a shadow over Kavanaugh since he was appointed to the Court.

Liman’s film will debut at Sundance on Friday night. In describing the film, Yutani noted that, it’s a very powerful documentary, we felt it was important to add. We saw it practically yesterday. It challenges existing narratives and asks tough questions.
