‘Quantico’ actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas criticizes her use of a surrogate. The 40-year-old actress shared with ‘British Vogue’ her journey into motherhood and life as a mother with daughter Malti Marie, who celebrated her first birthday earlier this week.
Malti’s birth was announced in a joint statement from Chopra Jonas and her husband Nick Jonas, shared on their respective social media accounts, ‘People’ magazine reports. The news that their baby girl was born via surrogate sparked tough comments and criticism for the new mum.
“I’ve developed tough skin when people talk about me,” Priyanka Chopra Jonas told ‘British Vogue’. “But it’s so painful when they talk about my daughter. I’m like, ‘Keep her out of it.’ “
Priyanka Chopra Jonas added, “I know what it’s like to hold your little hands when they’re trying to find your veins,” she continued, referring to the fact that Malti was born three months premature. “So no, she’s not going to be a gossip. I really protected this chapter of my life with my daughter. Because it’s not just about my life. It is also his.
According to ‘People’, Chopra Jonas later confirmed that her use of a surrogate was medically necessary.
“I had medical complications,” she explained. “It was a necessary step, and I’m so grateful that I was able to do it. Our surrogate was so generous, kind, adorable and funny, and she took care of this precious gift for us for six months.
Noting that critics are unlikely to change their minds about her, Priyanka Chopra Jonas said, “You don’t know me. You don’t know what I’ve been through. And just because I don’t want to go public with my or my daughter’s medical history doesn’t mean you have the right to reconcile for any reason.”
