Documentary timing

Although Andrew Callaghan has not given an official response to any of the allegations as of January 10, 2023, his followers and fans have come up with their own responses, many of them asking for hard evidence, while questioning what some was the “suspiciously opportune moment” of allegations released shortly after Callaghan released a documentary criticizing the mainstream media for his alleged role in the Jan. 6 uprising, citing his public appearance on CNN as a stark example. Callaghan’s interview was reposted to Twitter by user @brenonade on December 19, 2022, in which Callaghan criticized CNN’s business model, gaining over 8.5 million views and 90,000 likes in two weeks (see below).

apology video

On January 15, 2023, Callaghan posted an apology video to his Instagram page addressing the recent controversy (see below). In the video, he expressed “all his sympathy, respect and support to everyone I have hurt with” and said he wanted to “do better and be fully responsible for everything that I have done. does”. He also said, “I want to take full responsibility for not having a fluent understanding of consent and what enthusiastic two-way consent looks like.” He then committed to therapy and Alcoholics Anonymous.

Online, reactions from many social media users were uncharitable to Callaghan’s apology. For example, on January 16, Twitter user @KesagakeOK wrote, “Andrew Callaghan’s ‘apology’ video downplays what he did, provides conflicting statements and flatly ignores some of the worst accusations leveled against him. No one should buy his dishonest bullshit, he just doesn’t want to face the consequences of his actions” (below, left). On the same day, user @montypythong then lamented that Callaghan is unlikely to face any consequences thanks to the apology, even though, in their view, it was not enough (see below, right).
