The mother of rapist Metropolitan Police officer David Carrick has spoken out and says that despite having a normal childhood, her concerns about him began as a teenager.

She also said Carrick, 48, did pretty well in school and had so many girlfriends when he was younger that she stopped caring when he brought girls home .

The firearms officer, known to police colleagues as Bastard Dave, faces decades behind bars after admitting a total of 49 offenses between 2003 and 2020.

Carrick, from Stevenage, Hertfordshire, pleaded guilty to 43 counts at the Old Bailey in December and to the final six at Southwark Crown Court on Monday.

They include 24 counts of rape against nine women, but some of the charges are multiple incident counts, meaning they relate to at least 48 rapes.

His mother, Jean, separated from the officers’ father when he was a teenager and has since started a relationship with another man.

Speaking from her home in Salisbury, she told The Guardian how she raised concern about him when he was a teenager.

She said: After that he changed, he kind of kept himself and away from the family. And that’s when I had my other two children.

I didn’t know this until recently, but my other son told me: He’s a horrible man. He was kicking me behind my legs.

Carrick joined the army aged 19 before touring Cyprus and the Falklands in 1996.

Jean added: He always wanted to join the army. I think he wanted to travel. It may also be because he wanted to carry a weapon.

Recalling their last meeting, she recounted how Carrick took her to breakfast before getting angry that her half-brother was giving her heartbreak over the phone.

She told the Guardian: He took my phone away from me and started yelling at my son. He said: I am Mr Plod. I’m a policeman so don’t fuck me. He then fled and I never saw him again.

She said the allegations devastated her. He’s still my boy, still my son, she said.

She added: I just don’t know why he did it. You know, when he was good, and now he’s lost everything. He’s going to lose the Met Police a lot, everything.

Meanwhile, the former school friend of Carricks revealed how he treated women like c**p.

He told the newspaper: When we were younger I thought he was a cool guy. Many people loved him.

He was one of those guys who was good at everything, I think he had good grades and he was very athletic.

He was very popular with women, he was a handsome boy, he was a fit boy.

But the friend said he saw things I didn’t like pretty quickly shortly after Carrick bought a house in Stevenage in 2008.

He added: He would use his presence in the police and he would use his power to achieve his ends. He started arguing, then said he was in the police and was a bit too much.

So I used to say to him, Look, Dave, you can’t do this, you’re a cop.

The friend also recalled at least three occasions when Carrick flashed his warrant card to intimidate others.

It comes as Carrick pleaded guilty today to abusing and torturing 12 victims over nearly two decades.

Carrick used his position as a police officer to gain the trust of his victims and convinced them they would not be believed if they reported him, a court heard yesterday.

The armed officer from the Specialized Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command has tackled dating sites such as Tinder and Badoo in a bid to find vulnerable women before meeting them in bars.

He showed his tenure card and boasted of having met high-profile figures, including former Prime Minister Boris Johnson, through his work.

The former cop is believed to be one of the worst sex offenders in modern history after being unmasked as a serial rapist who attacked 12 women 24 times.

His crimes forced the Met to apologize for its failure to arrest Carrick as Number 10 warned that trust in the police had been shattered.

Sir Mark Rowley said: We failed on two counts. We failed as investigators, when we should have been more intrusive and joined the dots on this repeated misogyny over twenty years.

And, as leaders, our mindset should have been more determined to root out such a misogynist.

These failures are horrifying examples of the systemic failures that concern me and were highlighted by Baroness Casey in her recent review.

I know an apology doesn’t go far enough, but I think it’s important to acknowledge our failures and say I’m sorry.

I apologize to all the victims of David Carricks. I also want to say sorry to all the women in London who think we let them down.

A misconduct hearing will be held today in Carricks’ absence, ahead of his February 6 sentencing.
