KUALA LUMPUR: Rumah Bonda Founder Siti Bainun Ahd Razali, accused of neglecting and abusing a girl with Down syndrome known as Bella, told the Sessions Court today that she had received heavy criticism and even a death threat since the case went viral.
Siti Bainun, 31, said she also lost her job as the shelter was ordered to close and her restaurant was also boycotted.
But, there’s no point in crying over spilled milk. I have been called upon to defend myself on the unproven allegations and have been criticized for the action of Zurianty Sudins in releasing an edited video of Bella.
Even the two investigators could not clearly hear (what was being said in) the video recorded by Zurianty. I do not understand why the investigators could say that there was no need to see and hear the video which is the basis of their investigation.
If they could just listen and produce a transcript, the trial and the inquest and even the charges would certainly not be prejudicial against me, she said as she read her witness statement on the first day of her defense trial in front of Judge Izralizam Sanusi.
Siti Bainun said she lost everything due to the baseless allegations made against her and also wouldn’t dare to come out due to the threats she received.
When I sought medical treatment at a hospital, even the nurses tried to harm me, prompting my lawyers to intervene to ensure my safety, she said.
The woman was seen shedding tears as her statement referred to her friendship with Zurianty, who is the prosecution’s first witness.
In 2017, Zurianty and her two children came to live with me in my condo in Wangsa Maju because she had no place to stay after she and her second husband got divorced. Later she rented a unit in the same condominium as her children wanted to be near me.
I pity her and I love her children. That’s why I didn’t mind her staying with me, she said.
Siti Bainun said that if Zurianty really wanted to save Bella, she wouldn’t have acted out the feeling of an abused disabled child to get public attention and anger netizens, knowing that people would hate and condemn her.
When Bella was handed over to the JKM (Department of Social Welfare), Zurianty posted on Facebook how much she felt sorry for Bella, but in reality she never wanted to adopt Bella, she only used Bella for its Facebook content.
In fact, when the case came out, she tried to be a hero and wanted to adopt one of the kids in my care, known as Jane, not Bella, she said.
Regarding Bella’s injuries, Siti Bainun said he was made to understand that Balqis, another occupant of Rumah Bonda, had an argument with Bella and the two ran from the living room to the kitchen and laundry room where the thermos was placed.
Yasmin (another occupant of Rumah Bonda) stepped in and accidentally bumped into the kitchen shelf, knocking the thermos on the shelf, containing hot water, onto Bella, she said.
Siti Bainun said during the incident that she was not at home.
However, she said she took Bella to a clinic for treatment, but there were no new injuries as it was the only incident involving the girl.
On November 24 last year, the judge ordered Siti Bainun to defend herself on two counts of neglect and abuse of Bella after the prosecution successfully established a prima facie case against her at the court. end of the accusation.
Siti Bainun, 30, allegedly committed the offense at a condominium in Wangsa Maju between February and June 2021.
The charges were brought under section 31(1)(a) of the Children’s Act 2001, which is punishable by up to 20 years’ imprisonment or a fine RM50,000 or both, if found guilty.
The trial continues tomorrow. – Bernama
