Developer Day Before Fntastic denies claims that the game is a scam and provides additional context for the recent delay. The Day Before is one of the most searched games on Steam in recent memory, but it’s also a very strange game. For a game with this level of hype, it’s made by a studio that hasn’t done anything remarkable. However, the game’s reveal promised a big MMO where players would have to survive in a zombie-infested America, somewhat resembling a cross between The Division and The Last of Us. It looked promising, but of course players are skeptical. because they have already been burned.
It didn’t help that the developer avoided showing raw gameplay, delayed the game before, and seemed to have an excuse for everything. Earlier this week, The Day Before was delayed from March to November 2023 and the gameplay reveal was also postponed. The developer cited a branding issue as the reason, leading many to be confused and feel like it was all leading up to a scam. The fact that this developer didn’t trademark their own game a month and a half before launch was a baffling concept to many. However, the team told IGN that they had been anticipating a delay for some time and would reveal it during the gameplay video. He also denied claims that this whole game is a scam and that Fntastic and its publisher Mytona are confident in the final product.
“We understand that some players, not having the big picture, may have doubts about the game,” the statement read. “We’ve always focused on the product itself. We’ve been making the game for four years. It’s been sweat and blood all those years to make this game, and for many on our team, it’s unpleasant to hear such accusations. We didn’t take a dime from people: no crowdfunding, no pre-orders, no donations. The game is fully funded by Mytona, one of the largest mobile publishers in the world, which has verified the build of the game at each milestone as per our contract.”
For now, only time will tell what will become of The Day Before. He can be anything he aims to be. It can fall flat on its face. We’ll just have to wait and see, but the team hopes to reveal gameplay very soon.
The Day Before will be released on PC on November 10, 2023. Are you still interested in the game? Let me know in the comments or hit me up on Twitter @Cade_Onder.
