Real Madrid’s La Liga title aspirations came to a realistic end as they suffered a shock 3-2 defeat at the hands of Villareal. Defender Nacho has drawn the ire of fans for his performance against the Yellow Submarines on Saturday April 8th.

Los Blancos entered the clash at Santiago Bernabeu with plenty of momentum behind them. Carlo Ancelotti’s side beat Barcelona 4-0 in their previous game.

The own goal from Pau Torres (16th) gave the hosts a perfect start to the game in the first half. Samuel Chukwuze however equalized the proceedings in the 40th minute.

Vinicius Junior put Los Blancos back in front in the 48th minute. Jose Luis Morales restored parity in the 70th minute before Chukwuze scored the winning goal in the 84th minute of the match.

Nacho had a poor performance. The veteran, who is currently in the final months of his contract, has been dribbled past four times and has won just one of his five encounters on the ground.

Fans were unhappy with the display, with one writing on Twitter:

“Nacho looks like a retarded goose on the ball, that’s the best way to explain it.”

Another fan said:

“‘Nacho’ Hall of Shame Performance.”

Los Blancos, meanwhile, are now trailing league leaders Barcelona by 12 points, having played one game more than the Catalan club.

Here are some of the best reactions on Twitter after Nacho’s performance in Real Madrid’s La Liga loss to Villareal:

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti recently shared an update on the contract renewals of three superstars

Luka Modric, Karim Benzema and Toni Kroos, three long-time Real Madrid retainers, are currently in the final months of their contracts.

Ahead of the Villareal clash, Carlo Ancelotti was asked about the players’ possible renewals. The Italian manager said (via Los Blancos official website):

“I think they will stay. You also have to think that the day they stop, something will have to change and we will look to the future of the club. We have fantastic young players who will shape a different era at Real Madrid. [from] the era of Modrić, Kroos and Casemiro.

Benzema has been with the club since 2009. Modric joined in 2013 and Kroos arrived in 2014.
