After months of mercilessly portraying the death of the late Princess Diana, Netflix bosses have decided to end The Crown’s next series on a high by featuring the wedding of King Charles and Queen Camilla.
The streaming giant has come under intense scrutiny for re-enacting the car crash in Paris that killed Diana and the funeral that took place afterwards.
But following the controversy, which has upset members of the royal family, writer Peter Morgan will portray the wedding as the season finale which will be the last series.
Netflix sources say they hope this puts an end to criticism that the streaming service looks down on the Queen and the Royal Family.
The performance of the wedding will be filmed this week at York Minster, which is used in place of St George’s Chapel in Windsor where the King and Camilla married in 2005.

A source close to Netflix told the Mail: “For the past few months, it feels like the series has goaded audiences into gruesomely telling the story of Diana’s death in a heartless way, thus causing the useless wrath of Princes William and Harry.”
“So the decision to end it so well, Netflix hopes, will change the perception that they want to be insensitive, they hope it will remove the bad taste from the mouths of viewers.
“Charles and Camilla’s wedding will be a real celebration and a truly happy moment in the history of the monarchy. It also fits perfectly into the King’s coronation year.
“But some of the staff working on the program see it all as a cynical move to prevent Netflix from leaving its audience truly upset about Diana’s tragic death.”
King Charles actor Dominic West, 53, and Olivia Williams, 54, who plays the Queen Consort, will film inside York Minster for two days this week.
Actors representing the wider royal family are also expected to be present.
