An anti-monarchist group hit out at the coronation of King Charles’ ‘parade of vanity’, after claiming the monarch had a personal fortune of 1.8 billion.
According to an in-depth investigation by The Guardian, Charles’ private wealth includes 54 jewels, many of which were acquired by Queen Elizabeth’s grandmother, Queen Mary, which are worth around 530 million. It also includes racehorses, private properties, investments, a fleet of cars and art.
A spokesman for the king described the newspaper’s estimate of the king’s personal wealth as “very creative”.
Campaign group Republic, which aims to abolish the British monarchy, said people viewing the report would likely wonder why they had to bear the cost of the May 6 coronation during a cost of living crisis when the royal family is more than capable of covering it themselves.
“The coronation is unnecessary, it is his own vanity parade, and its cost is estimated at 100 million, which he could easily afford given his personal wealth – on which he pays no inheritance tax,” he said. Republic’s Graham Smith told Yahoo News. UNITED KINGDOM.

“It’s more than money, but it continues to cost us dearly. People will look at that number and say, ‘why are we putting our hands in our pockets when you have so much money of yours, and you have this because you don’t pay the taxes we pay,’ so it’s going to annoy and upset a lot of people.”

The coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla is expected to cost around 100 million, while the coronation of Queen Elizabeth in 1953 cost 1.5 million.
“In today’s money, the 1953 coronation cost around 50 million, but the estimates for King Charles are double that because of things like security, which weren’t such a big deal at the time. “, a source told The Sun.

And despite the huge financial outlay, a new poll suggests more than half of Britons aren’t interested in the coronation.
The recent YouGov poll showed 52% of the public said they were not interested in the coronation, 29% said they were somewhat interested and 15% said they were very interested.
Yahoo News UK contacted Buckingham Palace and the Guardian for comment, but neither chose to respond.
A palace spokesman also told the Guardian: ‘While we do not comment on private finances, your figures are a highly creative mix of speculation, assumptions and inaccuracies. The palace also said the king’s personal finances should be kept private, as they do for any other individual.
