CJPME: Federal politicians must apologize for ads on racist website – CJPME

Montreal, June 1, 2023 Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) continues to call on federal politicians to apologize for the advertisements they placed on a website called TheJ.ca, which hosts regular racist content. In a report released in late April titled “Legitimizing Hate,” CJPME documented advertisements run on TheJ.ca on behalf of Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre, Deputy Conservative Party Leader Melissa Lantsman, Parliamentary Foreign Secretary Rob Oliphant and Leah Taylor Roy, MP. AuroraOak RidgesRichmond Hill. In its report, CJPME recommends that politicians who have advertised on the website issue official statements distancing themselves from TheJ.ca and the racist positions advanced by its contributors. To date, none of the federal politicians involved have done so.

CJPME’s report described how the website routinely posts racist content discrediting black civil rights movements, disability activists, Muslims, Arabs, Palestinians and Indigenous claims, including a post claiming that certain groups ethnicities matter more than others. Since the report was published six weeks ago, the site continues to host all of the cited racist articles. While such ads are offensive and hurtful to groups targeted by such racism, ads by federal politicians are especially odious, said CJPME President Thomas Woodley.

CJPME points out that three of the four federal politicians involved hold leadership positions of national significance. What should Palestinian Canadians think when the Parliamentary Secretary for Foreign Affairs runs ads on a website that calls Palestinians cancer, asks Woodley. And what should people of black heritage in Canada think of party leaders who announce on a website that Black Lives Matter is a far-left, anti-white, anti-capitalist, anti-family revolutionary movement whose openly expressed goals are to destroy Western culture and society, adds Woodley.

Some of the most despicable content posted on TheJ.ca, as noted in CJPME’s report, includes:

A column titled Jewish Lives Matter MORE, which contradicts the Black Lives Matter movement by asserting that Jewish lives not only matter, they matter more. For what? They matter more because their existence contributes more to the public good than the lives of other ethnic groups [] There may be an element of survival of the fittest. A column mocking recognitions of Indigenous lands and claiming that the idea that European colonialism stole land from Indigenous peoples is a myth. A chronicle arguing that Arabs must embrace modernity or risk reverting to desert tribal primitivism. A letter stating that Islamic immigration to the west leads to poisonous attitudes and for this reason the author hesitates[s] even go to a Falafel. Columnists who deny Palestinian indigenousness and culture, and portray Palestinians as the enemy within and as a cancer that must be eradicated.
