The Weeknd responds to criticism of his dialogue in sex scene with Lily-Rose Depp in The Idol

HBO’s new series The Idol is certainly having the internet talking.

The TV show centers on a pop star named Jocelyn (played by Lily-Rose Depp) and how she tries to pursue her music career after her mother passes away.

However, his big comeback seems to be in danger after his meeting with Tedros (The Weeknd / Abel Tesfaye).

Tedros is seen fully clothed as he orders Jocelyn, who is naked and wearing a blindfold, to fulfill her sexual fantasies as he watches her from a distance.

At some point during their meeting, he told her to fucking stretch that little, little p****’.

That’s probably enough to make even ardent fans of the Take My Breath singer feel a little uneasy at least.

Viewers took to Twitter to share their immediate thoughts, and fans say they’ll never be able to watch The Weeknd the same way again.

Another user complained: He definitely gives me the ick after this episode.

Still, the actor at the center of the critics fired back.

The Weeknd explained to GQ that the scene was never meant to be appealing and highlights the problem with his character.

There’s nothing sexy about it, Tesfaye said.

Regardless of how you feel watching this scene, whether it’s discomfort, or whether you feel rude, or whether you feel embarrassed for the characters.

“All of these emotions add up to this: this guy is way over his head, this situation is one where he’s not supposed to be here.

The singer and actor said Tedros “comes across as such a loser” in this scene and described him as a “psycho”.

He told GQ, “There’s nothing really mysterious or mesmerizing about him. And we did it on purpose with his looks, his outfits, his hair, guys an asshole.

“You can tell he cares so much about how he looks, and he thinks he looks good. But then you see those weird moments of him alone that he repeats, he’s calculated.”

The idol caused a stir when it premiered on TV screens around the world this month.

The first episode drew 3.6 million viewers in the first week, which is higher than Euphoria and The White Lotus; two of HBO’s biggest titles in recent years.
