From Lateef Dada, Osogbo
A traditional leader in Osun State, Olowu of Kuta, Oba Adekunle Makama, has warned former Niger Delta agitator Asari Dokubo to watch his statement and avoid demoralizing the military.
The monarch, in a statement made available to reporters on Saturday, argued that it would be counterproductive to ridicule the Nigerian military because of a few bad elements that also exist in other institutions.
According to him, it takes a lot of effort to build the military of a country to such a level as we have in Nigeria, and as such a categorical statement that the military is responsible for the theft of oil in the Niger Delta is not the best.
He frowned at the generalization, saying that while the country appreciated Dokubo’s support over the past few months for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, his outburst about the military after the visit was unseemly.
Dokubo’s outburst that the military was responsible for stealing oil after his visit to Mr. President is unseemly. It’s a betrayal of trust. Why should he use the presidential press gallery to make such a statement that is capable of demoralizing our military?
If he has information about some unscrupulous elements of the military involved in the theft of oil, he can pass it on to Mr. President without this undue sensationalism. It is unjustified.
Considering the supreme sacrifice our military had made and given to the forces of the insurgency and the associated unrest across the country that they face on a daily basis, this statement was tantamount to breaking their spirit; it’s not the best, added the monarch.
