NY Mets Rumors: Justin Verlander is deflated

The Mets are 16 games out of first place in Newfoundland East. They’ve been an abject disaster this season, despite Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer leading their rotation, and a roster that includes Francisco Lindor, Pete Alonso and more. On paper, this should be a playoff team. In practice, the Mets are anything but.

New York is 8.5 games shy of a Wild Card spot in the National League. After another solid outing from Justin Verlander that ended in a loss, the beleaguered pitcher spoke about his team’s struggles.

“I don’t think anyone saw it coming, man,” Verlander said. “Disappointing. It’s disappointing for everyone in this room, I know. It’s disappointing for the fans. I just have to – keep trying, you know? If there’s one thing I know that the guys in this room do is try us Every day we come to the park myself I try to improve myself and figure out what’s wrong And I know most guys in this room are the same way, and I hope it’s okay for everyone, but we have to go – soon.

“Soon,” as Verlander asserts, was probably about a month ago. Yes, it’s only June, but the trade deadline is a month away. The New York front office needs to start formulating its maturity plans for July, and looking at this current product on the ground, it’s hard to say it should buy.
