(NEXSTAR) HBO Max’s hottest new drama involves an internal email and an embarrassed intern.
On Thursday night, HBO Max confirmed that one of its interns was responsible for a confusing email sent to subscribers in error over an hour earlier.
We mistakenly sent an empty test email to part of our HBO Max mailing list tonight, HBO Max confirmed on its HBOMaxHelp Twitter account. Not really. And help them get through it.
We mistakenly sent an empty test email to part of our HBO Max mailing list tonight. We apologize for the inconvenience, and as the jokes pile up, yes, that was the intern. Not really. And help them get through it.

Subscribers first noticed the email in their inbox a little before 9 p.m. ET. The subject line simply reads Integration Test Email # 1, and the body contained only one sentence: This template is only used by Integration Testing.

Some of the recipients took to Twitter shortly after, expressing confusion or asking for clarification. Most, however, were content to joke that HBO Max would launch a new round of integration tests on its streaming platform.
The difference between HBO Go and HBO Max is that HBO Max includes the # 1 integration test email every season.

Hope the integration test email will be renewed for a second #HBOMax season

I can’t believe I have to say this, but maybe we can wait ONE day after the # 1 integration test email drops to start messing it up ???

Lol if it turns out that the HBO Max email blunder is a stunt for a new show called Integration Test Email, then kudos to the marketing team, one user wrote.

But among the (many) silly comments, many Twitter users began to share their sympathies with the intern and even defend him. One developer summed up the problem by assuring the young worker that we were all there at some point in life, and others began to share their own embarrassing stories.
Don’t Feel Bad Intern # 1 Integration Test Email… When I was an intern, I accidentally turned off all devices during a complicated laser experiment at MIT.

Seeing the HBO Max integration test email reminds me of when I sent a death announcement for a member of the congregation who was alive and well.
It happens to the best of us. I think of you, HBO intern

to the intern who sent the blank onboarding test email: I rearranged inaccurately once, then saved a manifest of 2000+ staff info cells and passed the following 3 days to be corrected with the supervision of my supervisors.
everything will be fine, and one day it will be a fun story. https://t.co/qR2Qy0sfkl

It’s so heartwarming to see everyone sharing their own mistakes in support of Integration Test Email # 1 intern. Today, a good day on Twitter.

Some even went so far as to claim that the intern had done HBO Max a huge favor by sending the email, creating a social media buzz that wouldn’t have existed otherwise.
Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, Disney +, Peacock, Paramount + all have the same meeting right now all called in a hurry WHAT IS OUR “INTEGRATION TEST EMAIL?” “

Dear intern,
Sending the # 1 integration test email (it was successful by the way) might be the best marketing @hbomax has ever done. Congratulations! Get yourself a beer or two. https://t.co/Par26ZNFE4

“Don’t worry, HBO intern, we’ve all been there,” wrote one supporter. “Honestly, you should probably get a raise for doing this weekend’s hot meme.”
