STATEN ISLAND, NY Borough man is in conflict with the law for allegedly setting fire to a Christmas wreath outside a Clifton apartment, while a woman was inside shortly before last Christmas, according to authorities.

Firefighters have arrested Devin Droz, 24, on arson and other charges arising from the alleged Dec.15 incident.

A criminal complaint said the events took place around 8:50 a.m. outside an apartment in the multi-story building at 280 Park Hill Ave.

The accused set a door wreath on fire, as well as a groundsheet outside the victims’ apartment, according to the complaint.

He set these things on fire when he knew or had reason to know the woman was inside, according to the complaint.

I (was) mad at her, the complaint quotes Droz as telling authorities. Light the wreath and carpet with the purple lighter at 280 Park Hill Ave. This will not happen again.

In a separate statement to officials, Droz said, I threw the lighter at the girl after lighting the wreath and carpet, according to prosecutors’ court documents.

In one of his statements, Droz said the episode occurred on Monday, December 14. However, court records indicate the date of the incident is December 15.

No one was apparently injured, although the complaint indicated that there had been damage from charring and smoke.

Droz, who resides at Deidre Court on the Clifton-Concord border, has been charged with second and third degree arson.

He is also charged with the offenses of reckless endangerment, criminal mischief and arson.

The accused is due to be brought to justice on Wednesday in the St. George State Supreme Court.

Defense lawyer Manuel Ortega could not be reached immediately for comment.
